IB Career-Related Programme

Programme Coordinator: Steve Houwen (303) 982 - 8105

The IBCP incorporates the vision and educational principles of the IB into a unique programme specifically developed for students who wish to engage in career - related learning. The IBCP’s flexible educational framework allows schools to meet the needs, backgrounds and contexts of students. Each school creates its own distinctive version of the IBCP.

The IBCP enables students to prepare for effective participation in an ever-changing world of work as they:

  • Consider new perspectives and other points of view
  • Engage in learning that makes a positive difference
  • Develop a combination of traditional academic skills and practical skills
  • Think critically and creatively in rapidly-changing and global workplaces
  • Communicate clearly and effectively
  • Work independently and in collaboration with others
  • Become self confident people who are resilient and flexible.

IBCP at Alameda

At Alameda, the IBCP has been offered in the area of Health Careers. Beginning in the fall of 2016, students will also be able to choose a pathway in the Creative Arts. IBCP is focused on preparing students for work in these career related fields either at an entry level directly after high school, or to prepare them for further education in Allied Health or Creative Arts fields whether at the Community or Junior College level, or in 4-Year Colleges and Universities. While students will not take the required 6-7 Diploma level courses required by the IB Diploma Programme, this is a rigorous, career focused program which will include significant community connected projects and practical learning.
