We provide tuition-free, public education with research-based interventions for secondary students with dyslexia. No formal diagnosis is required for admission.
The Bright MINDS Program Mission: To Educate & Empower
Alameda International's Enhanced Dyslexia Support Program helps talented students with dyslexia and language-based learning differences reach their potential. We provide:
- Systematic, intensive reading instruction
- Individualized writing and executive functioning support
- Building-wide support systems
Our mission "To Educate & Empower" extends beyond students to parents and community through dyslexia awareness presentations at local and state levels.
Support Systems
Students in the Bright MINDS program receive specialized instruction in reading and writing (daily for grades 7-8, every other day for grades 9 and up) while fully participating in Alameda International's IB Middle Years Programme. We recognize students' unique gifts and provide targeted support including:
- Wilson Reading System instruction
- Executive functioning and self-advocacy skill development
- Social-emotional support
- Individualized accommodations
- Organizational strategies
Our research-based approach ensures language challenges don't limit students' potential.

See What Parents of our Students are Saying
The extra support provided in the core classes has made all the difference in my daughter's anxiety and frustration with school. She has the confidence to raise her hand and ask questions. She used to not ask because the teachers would just state the same information in the same way...instead of trying a different way; a way that she could connect with. Having a Bright Minds teacher in the core classes also helps during study hall. No time is wasted on the explanation of assignments by a student who struggles to remember the details.
School has been a real struggle for my boy. And, unfortunately, traditional public school programs, core curriculum teachers and even Special Ed administration have not been the most helpful. My son would loathe going to school and would say regularly that he was stupid. It was truly heartbreaking that our district seemed to be failing him. Then we were accepted to the Bright Minds Program. It fit with his tutoring, gave him a sense of community, and most importantly helped him be more successful. He has maintained A's and B's in most classes except for one, for the entire first semester. I haven't heard him say he's stupid since being in Bright Minds!! I love the program and love the Bright Minds Staff. Thanks so much Bright Minds!
Finally we have the support we need to address our son's dyslexia learning differences. The passion and organization behind the Alameda Bright Minds dyslexia program is top notch and has made a world of difference in out son's abilities and confidence.
For the past six years, my son has struggled academically. His confidence and sense of self-worth around school has been on a consistent downward slide. The classroom was an incredibly frustrating place for him and caused a great deal of anxiety. Frequently after school, my son would run to his room, pull the covers over his head and say, "I'm so stupid," and completely shut down. As a mom it would absolutely break my heart not knowing what to do for him or how to help him. Finally, after so many years of frustration, my son was diagnosed with dyslexia and dyscalculia. He also tested incredibly gifted and we learned that throughout the years he was masking his disability with his gifts. Since being a part of the Bright Minds program my son has made wonderful connections with other students who have the same struggles. I have noticed a spring in his step and not once since the beginning of the school year has he called himself stupid.. For my son and out family, I consider this a tremendous success. My son has gained confidence and courage and I am thankful every single day that he is part of the Bright Minds program.
The Bright Minds Dyslexia Program has been a life changer for my child with school and his education. My child was tired of being in special education classes in his previous school. He wasn't learning to his full potential due to the amount of disruptions for special education and behavioral issues. After months of being in the Bright Minds Program he told us that he rated the education he was getting 9 out of 10. And said his previous schools' education was 4 out of 10. He is thriving with the program and help he is getting with dyslexia specifically. He also enjoys the after school programs they offer at Alameda. We are looking forward to the next year with the program and feel that the program has been highly beneficial in our child.
The Bright Minds program has been life changing for our daughter. To be part of a group with other students who have dyslexia has helped her confidence and self-esteem. She is being taught by supportive teachers who have been trained in how dyslexic students learn. She likes school now and is actually learning! Her executive function skills have improved which will help her for years to come. She has formed strong friendships with other students in the program and they all "get" each other. There is a strong feeling of being a team among the Bright Minds students. It's clear how much they care about and support each other. We are incredibly grateful to Dr. O, the teachers and the staff who created the Bright Minds program.
The Bright Minds program is the first and only dyslexia program for secondary students in Jeffco schools. The Wilson reading program has been shown to help kids with dyslexia and I'm so happy they are using that program at Bright Minds. I also love that there are two teachers in my son's classroom of eight students. He gets the support he needs in both the Bright Minds program and his regular ed classes.
I can't believe you are about to finish the first year of the Bright MINDS program. Speaking for [my son] and myself, you have all exceeded our highest expectations for the program!!
Dr. O,
Thank you so much for everything you do for these kiddos and their families. I truly can't express how much of an impact you and your team have made. Having your support and that of your team this year has been such a blessing. I simply can't thank you enough. We have had such an amazing experience with you, Ms. Thurnby, Ms. Richards and Ms. Arguello!!
You certainly go above and beyond by showing your support with events that aren't even school related. I also have to mention that Ms. Thurnby and Ms. Richards made it out to a few lacrosse games to show their support for the boys.

Thank you.
